PHOTOS OF MATT DAMON AND MORGAN FREEMAN AS FRANCOIS PIENAAR AND NELSON MANDELA
The 1995 World Cup film is officially being named “INVICTUS,” and I thought you would enjoy these pics of Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar and Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela.

Matt Pienaar

Morgan Mandela
Quite a vibe.
I dig that pic of Morgs. Nailing the frail Mandela vibe.
And Damon’s strapping around the wrists – spot on – just like Frankie Peanuts.
And that blonde hair? SICK!
Also check the old SAA logo on the advertising boards to the left of the pic.
[thanks jase]

I think Damon should have bulked up for the role – looks like a mascot not a flanker.

Problem is folks in the States are going to see Matt as this sized down Francois Pienaar and will go “yeah, rugby playas aint as big as NFL playas” , perpetuating their belief everything is bigger and greater in America.

Should Matt not be holding a packet of Lays maybe?

The dude behind Morgan played Louis Luyt. Should be a cracker of a film. With tons of wankers finding fault all the way through.I think it will do huge things (positive) for South Africa and Rugby – world wide. Its not made FOR South Africans oaks. Its made for a worldwide audience. Just chil and geniet dit.
post script: Have you ever seen a rugby player even close to the size of USA basketball players?

There’s another hoot: the Xerox logo behind Matt was developed in 2008, not 1995!

You probably wont see it in the film, cameras will be pointing down, unless it gets seen when the famous drop kick goes over!

Matt Damon is a fine actor but looks no different than the average South African schoolboy. I’m really looking forward to the movie but I hope the sheer difference in physical size between actor and player does not distract. Here’s hoping creative camera angles during filming did the trick.

@Jeremy G:
Oh man, don’t ruin the movie for me. I’d like the suspense.. will the drop kick go over or not? Now that I know there is no need to see the movie, thanks a lot!

I would just like to mention that if you consider a player at 2.01m and 118kg small then yes, rugby players are small
I guess even the animals are bigger in america. I cannot wait for this movie to screen. 1995 was a huge turing point for South africa, and world rugby. And a great story to share!
