A MINI Is Leading The Dakar Rally
MINI fans will be pleased to know that Frenchman, Stephane Peterhansel is leading the Dakar Rally in Argentina!
Check this out from smh:
France’s Dakar Rally legend Stephane Peterhansel took the overall lead in the car section in Argentina on Wednesday after winning the fourth stage, a 326km special from San Juan to Chilecito.
The 46-year-old Mini driver – a six-time Dakar motorcycling champion and three-time car winner – had endured a miserable day on Tuesday when he had suffered two punctures but on Wednesday it was the turn of Qatar’s defending champion Nasser Al-Attiyah to have a nightmare.
The 31-year-old’s Hummer broke down after 288km of the stage and only got going again after a 15 minute stop.

That’s what I’m talking about! The first 4X4 MIN comes along and what does it do? It cleans up…
And you thought The Italian Job was over-the-top!
I miss my Countryman, but DAMN the new 2-seater coupe is hot…

As much as I like the Mini (or the other cars in the Dakar this year), it’s just a funny thing that almost nothing about the cars in the race is still stock, or normal parts, if you think about it. So… these aren’t Minis or Hilux bakkies, these are super customized, awesome racing machines.
And if you put five cars in a race with some of the best drivers in the world, you will get results.

I just got back from the first leg of Dakar, and I can assure you that these beasts are anything but minis. The engine and parts are all BMW. Still brilliant though.
