Less than a fortnight since Jay-Z and Beyoncé dropped their chart topping little nugget, Blue Ivy Carter, on the world, American music mag NME have dropped a mysterious poem doing the rounds online, apparently penned by papa Hov himself.
In it he swears to treat women better, and stop using the “B” word in his lyrics, all because of the joy little B.I.C. has brought to his heart. Awww.
“Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the word bitch/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it“.
He goes on to swear to protect her throughout her life, especially when the offspring of other rap colleagues come calling during those tricky teenage years.
“No man will degrade her, or call her name. I’m so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel“.
There is credible suspicion in media and music circles that Jay-Z is not the author of the poem, released barely a week after his track ‘Glory’ entered the charts at No. 74, making his and Beyoncé’s daughter the youngest person to chart a track, given her coos and cries can be heard in the background. The poem was not released on any of Jay-Z’s blogs, and so as yet, though the sentiment is admirable, it’s unclear if these words are from the mouth of Hov himself.
