In what is yet another flagrant disregard of the government’s supposed ban on publishing pictures of JZ’s Nkandla residence, Eye Witness News has unearthed photos that reveal just how much work has gone into our president’s compound.
On Thursday, the security cluster warned the media against publishing pictures of the compound. This was followed by pictures of the homestead trending on Twitter. Later, officials felt the need to clarify, and reported that only pictures of security features may not be published.
In 2008, images from Google Earth showed a modest, president-sized estate.
Later, in 2010, Google Earth’s imagery revealed that there was some serious construction work going on inside Nkandla.
This photo, taken by an aerial mapping company using a hi-tech, high-altitude mapping system, gives you an idea of how Zuma transformed his lavish presidential estate into a fully fledged dictator-crib.
Thanks to our tax money, Zuma can now enjoy an athletics track, basketball court and artificial football pitch. He can also rest a little easier now, knowing that his security guards are sleeping comfortably in their 21 new homes, which are located between the new twin helipads and ‘recreation area’.
The land on which Nkandla sits is now over a kilometer wide, more than double the size it was in 2006.
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is expected to release the Nkandla report early next year.
