Luis Suarez, hated universally for his unsportsmanlike conduct, was in the headlines again this week after a Tottenham Hostpurs mascot snubbed his handshake on live TV.
The Uruguyan was in scintillating form yet again, as he scored twice on a day that Spurs fans would much rather forget.
But not everything went his way. In what was initially suspected as comeuppance for his snubbing of Patrice Evra’s handshake in 2011, a young girl mascot dodged Suarez’s hand, and gave him some fingers instead.
In a brilliant twist of fate it turns out that her father, Des, put her up to it.
I said I’d give her £20 to give him the thumb to the nose and the twiddly fingers. Afterwards she came back to our seats and said ‘dad I’ve done it’ and I told her I didn’t see it and she said he just laughed and then she asked for her £20.
Suarez isn’t the nicest character so I just wanted her to do it. He’s a great striker though and when you watch the footage you can see it was a bit of fun, it was all good-natured because she laughed and he did too. It’s made my day – it’s just hilarious.
Nice.
Too bad Suarez also played a hand in convincing Daniel Levy to sack Spurs manager, Andre Villas Boas, after the embarrassing five-goal rout.
