Sometimes you just have to applaud ingenuity when you see it.
I guess this is a case of thinking outside the box, 12 inmates in a Walker County, Alabama jail busting loose thanks to some creative use of everyone’s favourite nutty spread.
Sorry, didn’t mean to assume your nut preference, but if you’re choosing smooth over crunchy then get out now.
Anyway, here are the details of the escape via Fox News:
The group used peanut butter from jail sandwiches to change the number above an inmate’s cell to the number that identifies a door leading outside the jail, Walker County Sheriff James Wood said.
Once an inmate asked the new jail worker to open his cell’s door, the outside door opened — and the group bolted, using blankets to climb over a razor-wire fence, according to investigators.
Authorities were able to recapture the other 11 inmates and return them to the jail. Christopher Smith, 19, was the latest inmate taken into custody, at 4:21 a.m., the Walker County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
24-year-old Brady Andrew Kilpatrick [below] is still on the loose, although he was locked up for marijuana possession so maybe that’s not all bad.
The hunt for Kilpatrick has taken to the air, with helicopters assisting in the process, and there is a $500 (R6 600) reward out for his arrest.
I’d be pretty bleak if that was the pittance they placed on my head, to be honest.
