‘Hilarious’ is a stretch, in my opinion, but props to David Schwimmer for stepping up to the plate.
In case you missed the start of this one, and you’re a little lost, a man who is a dead ringer for David Schwimmer was caught on camera stealing what looks to be a case of beer in Blackpool, UK.
We wrote about it here, but we’ll plonk the picture below again:
The internet was swift, and all the Friends jokes came out of the woodwork.
Enter Schwimmer himself, who offered this alibi:
Officers, I swear it wasn’t me.
As you can see, I was in New York.
To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme pic.twitter.com/EDFF9dZoYR— schwim (@DavidSchwimmer) October 24, 2018
Not bad, and almost 127 000 retweets at the time of writing.
Via Sky, the Police came back with another zinger:
Lancashire Constabulary continued the banter, replying with a tweet saying: “Thanks for being there for us,” a reference to the long-running sitcom’s theme tune.
It’s less funny when you explain the joke, guys.
Then again, if you enjoy the humour on Friends, all hope is already lost.
