Following hot on the heels of our explosive Sandy Bay Freak Out article we posted on Thursday, comes this beautiful little pictorial, emailed to me by Tony B and The Surfer.

This is a true account of a surfer’s experience in the recent past at Sandy Bay. It’s pretty wild.

Only in Africa

Going surfing on a saturday afternoon at Sandy Bay is never gonna be your “regular” day at the beach, (for those that don’t know, Sandy Bay is the famous nudist beach in Cape Town) . There are guaranteed to be some sights that you won’t see at a regular beach. These guys, however, were pretty special. It all started off pretty tame…..a couple friends enjoying the unseasonably warm water and the spring high tide.

 

 

But then the Hennesey Cognac came out.

 

Drinking on Cape beaches is supposedly against the law…..not that this Hout Bay cop seemed to care much…..he was too busy on his phone!

 

 

Or maybe he was checking out this dude???

 

 

While his other mate’s chilled out by the rocks, sunning there larger than life frames, this chap got tucked into his bottle of “Yak” in the shorebreak.

 

At one point professing his undying love to the bottle!

 

 

But, unfortunately it all became to much for the big guy. The combination of an expensive bottle of Cognac (now with a fair bit of Atlantic sea water in it), the sun and the sea all took its toll our dear friend…..

 

 

Don’t hate the player, hate the game right?

 

 

After coming to, this chap tried to climb over the rocks to another part of the beach and fell on his well cushioned stomach but unfortunately cut his hand. Visibly angry, he threw his half empty bottle at the rocks in disgust, smashing it. It’s unclear weather they took the glasses they brought with them home or not. Something tells me not.

After nearly getting into a fight about leaving the beach, a mate of mine saw them climb into a brand new Audi back in the parking lot and speed off, swerving all over the road to the sound of other cars horns.

Oh ya, drinking and driving is also ment to be illegal here.

Awesome. That is just fucking awesome!

I’m sorry, but abuse of social behaviour and law aside, you have to give the guy a nod for living the holiday – flat on his back in the sand taking a freedom slash into the rolling waves. Respect. It can’t get better than that.
