Check out this video of a surfer in California hitting up some night surf accompanied by the soft tumbling glow of bio-luminescent algae in the waves. Certainly one way to make a prosaically beautiful sport even more breathtaking. This phenomenon is not limited to American beaches, by the way; if the water is warm enough and the night dark enough, you can often catch the soft glimmer of these algae churning in the waves off our own pristine shores. Beautiful.
