The mother of a prospective student has been killed in a stampede for late registrations at the University of Johannesburg, which has been confirmed by a spokesperson for the university.
Several other people have also been injured in the incident, and are being treated by paramedics. The incident happened after thousands of matrics started queuing from the early hours of Monday morning to try to enter their late registrations at the University of Johannesburg. A spokesperson for the university has said that it will continue accepting late applications until the close of business on Friday, although following today’s incident the administration has been closed until the start of business tomorrow.
