The controversial, far-right English Defence League marched on Saturday through the streets of Bristol against the “islamification” of the city. Sixteen arrests were reported, including a national officer of the ironically named Unite Against Fascism (UAF) group who were also there. Basically, these people believe that there are too many Muslim’s in Britain and they should rather move somewhere else.
Supporters held signs saying “Dumping ground for the world’s Islamic dross & extremists. Nobody asked Bristol people”, “If you want Sharia laws, emigrate east” and “Sharia Courts – 7th century lunacy has no place in 21st century Bristol. This is not Saudi Arabia”. They also sang a song called “We’re the famous EDL”. I mean, look, these guys have a very valid point. Just listen to this eloquent and well-informed spokesperson for the group in the video below (taken at a EDL rally last year). If his charming manner and abilities to think critically does not win you over, then I just don’t know.
