Anyone who has read Anthony Kiedis’ book will know these guys don’t stick to a definite set list when they perform. We’ve managed to get hold of their set lists from their past few gigs in Australia, to work out what you can expect.

We have added Saturday night’s Johannesburg at the bottom.

    Concert in Perth, January 28:

    1) Monarchy of Roses
    2) Around the World
    3) Scar Tissue
    4) Snow (Hey Oh)
    5) Factory of Faith
    6) What in the World (Bowie cover)
    7) Can’t Stop
    8) Blood Sugar Sex Magik
    9) The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
    10) Under the Bridge
    11) Look Around
    12) Californication
    13) By The Way

    Encore

    14) Chad & Mauro & Josh & Flea Jam
    15) Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder cover)
    16) Soul to Squeeze
    17) Give it Away

Interesting to note the ommission of Dani California and Otherside, which appears on most of the other setlists. Nice touch throwing in Soul to Squeeze near the very end.

Two days earlier they performed in Melbourne and went for this vibe – five other songs made an appearance:

    1) Monarchy of Roses
    2) Dani California
    3) Otherside
    4) What in the World (Bowie cover)
    5) Look Around
    6) Can’t Stop
    7) Throw Away Your Television
    8) Tell Me Baby
    9) The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
    10) Under the Bridge
    11) Suck My Kiss
    12) Californication
    13) By The Way

    Encore

    14) Chad & Mauro & Josh & Flea Jam
    15) Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder cover)
    16) Meet Me At The Corner
    17) Give it Away

Ok, so Melbourne got Dani California, but no Scar Tissue and no Snow. Big trade..

Then January the 20th On Australia’s Gold Coast, saw the same missing Scar Tissue

    1) Monarchy of Roses
    2) Dani California
    3) Otherside
    4) Factory Of Faith
    5) What in the World (Bowie cover)
    6) Can’t Stop
    7) Long Progression (40 seconds)
    8) If You Have to Ask
    9) Tell Me Baby
    10) The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
    11) Under The Bridge
    12) Californication
    13) Look Around
    14) By The Way

    Encore

    15) Chad & Mauro & Josh & Flea Jam
    16) Suck My Kiss
    17) I Could Have Lied
    18) Give it Away
    19) Final Jam

We checked out a few other set lists and can’t find one (this year) where they’ve performed Scar Tissue AND Dani California at the same concert. A few other tracks not mentioned above do seem to pop up, like Universally Speaking, Parallel Universe, Hard To Concentrate, Don’t Dream It’s Over (Crowded House Cover – the Ozzies must have lost their minds), Ethiopia, Pea, Me And My Friends, Magic Johnson Sir Psycho Sexy and They’re Red Hot.

UPDATE: Here is what they played in Johannesburg on Saturday night:

    1) Monarchy of Roses
    2) Dani California
    3) Otherside
    4) Look Around
    5) Can’t Stop
    6) Snow (Hey Oh)
    7) Hollywood (Africa) (The Meters cover)
    8) Throw Away Your Television
    9) The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
    10) Right On Time
    11) Parallel Universe
    12) Under The Bridge
    13) Ethiopia
    14) Suck My Kiss
    15) Californication
    16) By The Way

    Encore

    17) Chad & Mauro & Josh  Jam
    18) The Power of Equality
    19) Soul To Squeeze
    20) Give it Away

Kiedis’ song about Sinead O’Connor, ‘I Could Have Lied‘ has only been sung once in their last seven outings.

Under The Bridge and Can’t Stop are a given, as is Californication, Give It Away, Look Around, Monarchy of Roses and By The Way. A total of 15-17 songs seems the norm, although Auckland New Zealand got 24 [Update, the big reason is the one is a festival and the other not].

Check out this graph, showing frequency of their various tracks, played in the 7 concerts they’ve played so far this year.

Ignore the numbers on the left – just look at the numbers on the right to see how frequently they were played.

    You’re welcome.

    See you at the concert.
