The Mail & Guardian team traveled to Austin, Texas for the twentieth annual South by Southwest conference. Online editor, Chris Roper and General Manager for Digital Operations, Alistair Fairweather bring us clips from Elon Musk’s keynote address, and other assorted treats.
South by Southwest is one of the biggest interactive film, music, tech and pop culture conferences in the world.
Fairweather interviewed Brian Chesky, the founder and CEO of Airbnb, which is an online community where registered online users can find a privately owned room, apartment or house to rent for a few nights or a week. At any given moment, there are at least 60 000 people staying in the accommodation they found on the site.
Roper and Fairthweather also report on the keynote by Elon Musk, the co-founder of PayPal Tesla Motors, and the founder of Space X, the first commercial space travel company. Musk plans to die of old age on Mars.
