Here we have Amazon’s proposed new headquarters in Seattle. These are the latest drawings of the office. The building is more of a greenhouse than an office space, different forms of plant life including mature trees will be housed in the special building.

The aim of the new building is to create an environment where employees “can work and socialise in a more natural, park like setting.” The design document revealed this:

The generative idea is that a plant-rich environemtn has many positive qualities that are not often found in typical office setting.

While the form of the building will be visually reminiscent of a greenhouse or conservatory, plant material will be selected for its ability to co-exist in a microclimate that also suits people.

To encourage the ggrowth and maintain the health of the plants,  the building’s interior will include high bay spaces on five floors totaling approximately 65,000 SF (6038 SM) and capable of accomodating mature trees.

Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos’ love for science fiction may be the reaon behind the building possesssing the futuristic flare. And yes the greenhouse design could also be due to its name sake.

The office rebuild for Amazon.com is no small feat, the project is set to take six years to complete the three 37 storey towers in downtown Seattle, just a stone throw away from their current office space.
