Garmin, the navigation technology expert, has greatly improved their latest product offering. The new feature on the device is called the Head-Up Display (HUD) and it will display all your required directions on the car’s windscreen. Along with the HUD comes a sleek design providing all your navigational information right in front of your eyes.

Garmin’s Vice President, Dan Bartel said:

HUD redefines the navigation experience by allowing drivers to find their way without taking their eyes off the road.

Head-up displays currently have their place in select high-end cars, but HUD makes this technology available as an aftermarket accessory for any vehicle, at an affordable price.

There is a wireless connection between HUD and the Navigation app on your smartphone. All the information regarding directions and your estimated time of arrival are displayed either on your windscreen or the attached reflector lens.

HUD has an added benefit too. It will let you know if you are going over the speed limit because the device will monitor the speed your car is travelling at and compare it to the road speed (if that information is available). The plus side of having it connected to your smartphone is that you will be notified of all traffic updates and advisory routes.

It is iOS, Android and Windows 8 compatible and has a USB port which allows you to charge your phone while the device is in use.

Garmin’s new device will be made available on the Garmin website later this year and will retail for $129.99 (R1,320.00).
