  • These Are The Reasons Business Insider Gave People For Visiting SA

WARNING – Cringe alert. Look, we all know Business Insider is a reputable site full of really cool, useful, relevant information. But when it comes to doing a nifty travel article on South Africa, these guys really know how to apply egg to the face. Did you know, South Africans speak “Cosa”? Herewith, Business Insider’s reasons for visiting South Africa:

    1. “English with Culture”

So apparently some Americans like to travel to places that don’t speak English, because the culture is likely to be more “vibrant” there. But, the obvious drawback is that you can’t understand anyone. But hey! In South Africa, we apparently have culture as well as English! Apparently our culture is very “colorful” because you can “cook a Malay meal in a local Bo-Kaap home” or “visit a sangoma for a healing ritual”. Also, and I hadn’t heard of this one, you can “hear locals speak local dialects (like Cosa, where they make a melodic click noise)”.

    Has anyone heard of Cosa?

    2. “Traditional Healing”

This is on an international website, inviting people to come to our country: “For example, stabbing someone with porcupine quills can flush illness and evil spirits from their body, planting aloe vera in your yard can keep away mean ghosts, and Umvusa Nkunzi — a vegetable that looks like a cross between a potato and an onion — is used as African Viagra.” Heads up, we also have Viagra.

    3. “Africa: Where The History Comes From”

“Before visiting South Africa, I was unaware the country — and the continent of Africa as a whole — had such a rich history. In fact, it’s believed by many to be the birthplace of humanity.” Jokes. History only started in Africa when white people showed up.

To be fair, the author does go on to mention craft beer, our local arts scene, and a few other bona fide positives. To see all the other reasons American’s think South Africa is awesome, click here.
