Daytona drivers Matteo Malucelli and Memo Gidley are both badly injured from a collision during the Rolex 24 race over the weekend, but seem to be in stable conditions according to the Ferarri and Gainsco teams respectively.
Malucelli suffered a “severe cerebral concussion” and remains under observation, whilst Gidley underwent surgery on his left arm and leg. He also has an “unstable fracture” in his back which will require further surgery before release.
Leading up to the crash Malucelli reported a “loss of drive” in his Ferrari and attempted to stop on the side of the road, but was unable to see Memo coming up behind him just before the impact took place.
