The 46-year-old actor’s untimely death may have come as a surprise when his body was found last Sunday by concerned friends. But Philip Seymour Hoffman’s troublesome past with drug addiction reared its head again in the months leading up to his death.
After 23 years of being clean, his struggle with addiction finally caught up with him. Close friends confirm that his battle with drug-use was the reason his partner of 14-years, Mimi O’Donnell, asked him to leave their shared apartment a couple of months ago.
A few days before his death he was seen at a bar in Atlanta drinking, smoking and making a suspiciously high number of trips to the bathroom. Before his flight back to New York, he was reported to be inebriated and looking disheveled. On the flight itself, he passed out almost immediately.
The police allegedly found 70 bags of heroin and 20 used needles inside his home on Sunday. Some of the bags were stamped with ‘Ace of Spades’, ‘Ace of Hearts’ and ‘Theraflu’, known to contain a lethal mix of heroin laced with fentanyl, linked to a 100 deaths in America since September alone.
