Wes Anderson has gained a cult following due to his whimsical humour, grand story telling of witty characters and uniquely stylistic films. His latest feature, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, is a crime caper that revolves around a concierge who has a thing for older women, and his protégé in training. Critics are rating it his best ever.
The vividly colourful story centres around The Grand Budapest Hotel, in its prime the most esteemed establishment in the world, set in the fictional European country Zubrowka. Newcomer to the Wes Anderson gang, Ralph Fiennes takes the lead as Gustave H., concierge extraordinaire. The mundane day-to-day lives of the concierge and his lobby boy quickly escalate into a hilarious life-and-death escapade after the 84-year-old lover of Fiennes’ character suspiciously kicks the bucket and endows him with a priceless piece of art in her will.
This masterpiece of storytelling has critics claiming it is most certainly his most thrilling piece yet, if not his best ever.
