Throughout history, creatively inclined people have had to sometimes rely on a rich benefactor for financial backing while their ideas are still in the teething phase. “Ideas Island” is project by Fredrik Härén which allows creatives to stay on one of three private islands for free.
Two islands close to Stockholm, Sweden, and one situated in the Philippines have been set up as creative havens for the chosen few. Härén’s project is a way for him to give back to the creative world. Potential lodgers have to complete an application form on the project’s site, which asks financially capable people to donate to a specified charity for their stay on the islands. If you aren’t able to do this, you can try to convince them your project is worthy enough for you to stay on for free.

If you don’t make the cut, you can retreat to the ultra luxurious, ultra private, biologically pristine get away that is Grootbos. We’ll put money on the fact that you’ll have the novel done by the Sunday afternoon.
