For one hour on Saturday, famous landmarks around the world went dark. The outages weren’t the results of unplanned Eskom load shedding, but for Earth Hour. More than 7,000 cities in 150 countries got in the act of switching off lights for one hour.
For 60 minutes, world landmarks like Times Square in New York City and the Acropolis in Athens went dark, in support of the Earth Hour movement. The event is organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is intended to engender care for the environment.
