Yes, boys and girls he’s back! After making a real balls-up of Madiba’s memorial with nonsense signing Thamsanqa Jantjie is back in the media as the face of a new app.
The advertisement for Livelens, a social livestreaming app that recently raised US$2 million, has Mr Jantjie poking fun at himself.
‘Hi, I’m Thamsanqa Jantjie from Nelson Mandela’s funeral,’ he says at the start of the commercial.
‘Believe me, I’m a real sign language interpreter,’ he says, as a female voiceover verbalises the sign language as having said: ‘I speak signed language – not.’ [Daily Mail]
This seems a little twisted, this guy has a pretty dodgy track record and clearly needs ongoing treatment for his mental illness. He has no recollection of Mandela’s funeral and yet here he stars in a rather distasteful parody. Is this taking advantage of the situation?
