He has lost several assets in recent years including homes and personal possessions and is not even close to repaying his estimated total of R16 million in tax debt. Ouch! He should have called Galbraith Rushby. Luckily we have a few tips for you from Galbraith | Rushby to keep you off the SARS naughty list:
- Submit your tax, vat and paye returns on time to avoid penalties.
- Pay your taxes on time in order to avoid penalties, usually 10%. If you cant pay on time, arrange a payment plan with SARS
- Complete your returns accurately in accordance with the law, penalties of up to 200% can be incurred for incorrect submissions
- Get a tax clearance certificate at least once a year – this will show you if you have missed anything or there is anything outstanding
