These Internet Video Stats Will Blow Your Mind

Video consumption on the internet is set to take a massive leap in the next five years, according to a new report from Cisco.

The interwebz – it’s not just for posting pictures of your lunch, apparently.

Hardware maker Cisco has compiled it’s latest annual data report, and the new set of statistics say some pretty interesting things about the internet generation and where we’re headed.

Cisco estimates global net traffic will triple within five years to a total of 131 exabytes of data per month.

It would take an individual over 5 million years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks each month in 2018. Every second, nearly a million minutes of video content will cross the network by 2018.

Internet video to TV doubled in 2013. Internet video to TV will continue to grow at a rapid pace, increasing fourfold by 2018. Internet video to TV traffic will be 14 percent of consumer Internet video traffic by 2018, up from 11 percent in 2013.

The report also highlights that a million minutes of video will cross the net every second in 2018.

That’s a lot of fail videos, cat compilations, and YouTube rants coming our way.
