Calico is a company backed by Google, and is a research centre specifically appointed to “cure death”.

Partnering with Chicago based pharmaceutical company AbbVie, Calico wants to “develop and bring to market new drugs targeting diseases associated with old age”.

Both Google and AbbVie are set to donate $250 million in funding, with the option to donate a further $500 million each. The money will be used for a new research centre in San Francisco.

“Our relationship with AbbVie is a pivotal event for Calico, whose mission is to develop life-enhancing therapies for people with age-related diseases. It will greatly accelerate our efforts to understand the science of aging.”

With the bold ambition to “cure death”, Calico and it’s researchers have a lot of work to do.
