We all got up this morning, had our caffeine boost and headed off to our place of employment to apply a trade and earn a wage.
Some are lucky enough to be walking through the front door into a workplace that has been well thought-out, properly fitted and tastefully furnished. However, some will be stepping into the squished cubicle hell that looks like a scene out of Dilbert! But there is good news. It’s an evolution, no scrap that, it’s a REVOLUTION that is being taken seriously and applied in workplaces the world over.
Activity Based Working (ABW) is a new, refreshing and exciting model that has flipped the idea that “if you’re not at your desk, you’re not working” on its head! ABW is a mindset where you choose the space in your office to work that is best suited to the task at hand.
So simply put, if for the next couple of hours you are running through and responding to emails, why shouldn’t you be able to do that seated comfortably on a couch? If you’re putting finishing touches to a huge proposal you’d probably prefer the silence and solace of a private cubicle. Naturally, if you’re making calls and updating documents you are most likely to want to be comfortably seated at a desk. Also, more and more work is becoming collaborative rather than individualized and so we require spaces that are suited to and enhance this style of working. You get the idea…
ABW is a work methodology that has proven benefits and advantages and is gaining ground rapidly. Quite frankly it’s here to stay.
The challenge for most businesses however is that their offices are not designed to support this new way of working. Lucky for you though, the team at Giant Leap know how to help you gear up for this and will help you design and modify your space in such a way that your people can begin to benefit from this liberating movement.
