Well, this makes me happy: two of the airlines I flew in the past month are on this list – Emirates and JetStar (granted my Emirates flight left me with a weird case of flea bites. Whatever. I’m alive so it’s fine).
The Top Ten safest airlines are Qantas, Air New Zealand, BA, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, EVA Air, Finnair, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.
As for low cost airlines, Kulula is in the top ten. The rest are Aer Lingus, Alaska Airlines, Icelandair, Jetblue, Jetstar, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook, TUI Fly and Westjet.
Whilst there is no mention of SAA in the top ten (which is sad because I enjoyed the unlimited Oreo’s that are available on the JNB-JFK flight), the airline does get a 6/7 star rating.
Qantas wins as “most experienced airline”.
Of the 27-million odd flights last year, there were only 21 crashes, with 986 fatalities.
The whole rating is done by AirlineRatings.com, which is the world’s “only safety and product rating website”, and was launched in June 2013.
