Some people are big fans of getting their kit off. Everyone knows that one guy or girl who channels their inner ‘Frank the Tank’ after a few toots, screaming at mates to join them as they stumble past, mispronouncing ‘gymnasium’. No judgement, we’ve been there before.

But fans of sober, daytime stripping down were overjoyed when South Africa’s first legal nude stretch of beach was opened in KZN from the beginning of November last year. That’s right, 500 metres of beach where the sand was free to find its way into any and all orifices without the pesky intrusion of clothing. A set of nudie beach rules and decorum can be found HERE.

Alas, these dreams have been put on hold for now, at least. Times Live reports:

The municipality decided in October last year to make it legal for naturists to strip off on the beach [from November], but bylaws confirming this still have to be promulgated. This will probably happen in time for the Easter holiday rush in early April.

This has not stopped certain revellers from donning their birthday suits and enjoying the South Coast sunshine, much to the chagrin of religious and cultural leaders in the area:

Thandoxolo Ncane, a spokesman for the group, which calls itself “The Concerned Residents”, said the petition [to oppose the nudity plan] had been signed by about 200 pastors and religious leaders on behalf of their congregations. “It’s thousands of people who are concerned about this beach. It’s not just about religion; it’s about morals and ethics. We have to respect everyone.

Whilst the law has obviously angered the more conservative out there, tourism in the area has seen a boom, with letting agents reporting a significant increase in business. I can only imagine that mixed in amongst the naked revellers are a fair few creepers who might not be too keen to follow the nudie beach rules.
