Some tragic news coming out of Mexico today as a gas explosion has ripped through a maternity hospital, shattering the building and killing at least three.
Whilst there are conflicting reports about the exact death toll three deaths have already been confirmed. This from the Guardian:
A 25-year-old nurse and a newborn between two and three weeks old died at the scene and another infant died several hours later at another paediatric hospital, said Armando Ahued, the city’s health secretary.
The explosion was caused by a leak whilst a gas tanker filled up a tank in the hospital. A witness was quoted in the Guardian as follows:
The hose broke. The two gas workers tried to stop it but they were very nervous. They yelled for people to get out.
The death toll may well rise as there are a number of people with serious injuries at surrounding hospitals.
Poor Mexico, as if having rampaging drug cartels and living in such close proximity to Texas wasn’t bad enough.
