Yes, this is the absolute best way to garner attention for your cause – burn down someone’s home and destroy public property.

Once again, South African service delivery protestors have hit the nail on the head and gone and rioted about how they’re tired of asking for running water, toilets and electricity by throwing petrol bombs at things.

Yes, I know it’s a basic human right to have those things, but destroying well over R10 million worth of government accessories just means it’s another R10 million that won’t go towards your running water, toilets and electricity.

Joseph Makeleni, who led the protestors, said that “the leadership had tried to initiate talks with members of the mayoral committee three weeks ago but have not received any response”. He added that “residents will continue to protest until they come and address them” – “they” being the city council.

The protestors are reported to be the same people that The City of Cape Town forced out of the land close to Philippi Industrial area last year for “illegal land occupation” and who are now seeking services delivery from them.

I really and truly wish the government and city councils could all get their acts together. Mmusi has a lot of work to do…
