Air shows are usually crowd-pleasers but this crash, taking place during Sunday’s Alba Adriatica air show in eastern Italy, took a turn for the worse after two planes collided mid-air and were sent spiralling to the ground.
One of the pilots involved, 37-year-old Marco Ribbi, was found dead by rescue divers whilst the other survived after making an emergency landing in the sea. The Telegraph reports:
The two-seater aircraft were travelling next to each other when one appeared to lose power, dropping straight into the path of the other…
Luigi Wilmo Franceshetti [has been named] as the surviving pilot…he suffered only minor injuries.
An investigation into the collision has been opened by the region’s deputy prosecutor.
