Jack Warner Is About To Be Arrested

The man who sits front and centre in the accusations against South Africa's 2010 World Cup bid is in a world of trouble. There's now more forces hot on his heels.

Heads are well and truly rolling and some big boys are getting involved as the FIFA circus rolls on.

The name Jack Warner has been thrown around a fair bit in the past week or so, especially here on our shores where he was the focal point of SAFA’s $10 million payment currently under investigation. Now his days as a free man look numbered, with Interpol issuing a red notice for Warner’s arrest on a range of charges including racketeering, conspiracy and corruption. This from EWN:

Red notices are one of the ways in which Interpol informs its member countries that an arrest warrant has been issued for an individual by a judicial authority and seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action.

A red notice is not an international arrest warrant, and no country is compelled to arrest the subject of a red notice.

So why do we say he is going to be arrested when a red notice doesn’t stipulate that clearly?

The individuals concerned are wanted by national jurisdictions and Interpol’s role is to assist national police forces in identifying or locating those individuals with a view to their arrest and extradition.

Ah, first Interpol finds your whereabouts and then the FBI goes to town. Along with Warner the Paraguayan Nicolas Leoz, a former FIFA executive committee member, and four corporate executives were also served with their red notices, a clear indicator that the FBI are broadening their investigation and readying themselves to exert some real pressure on those involved in the murky underbelly of FIFA corruption
