Given half a chance I would happily eat myself to death on a diet of pizza, pizza and more pizza. I imagine it’s what God would have eaten on the seventh day when resting, that’s how highly I regard this culinary delight.
I don’t imagine he would have ordered a topping of cockroaches though, something a rather unfortunate Debonairs customer in Jozi was subjected to yesterday. You can see the scrumptious delight below:
High-protein yes but not really something we would be all that keen on. Debonairs were quick to respond to the uproar with this tweet:
The problem is it turns out this isn’t the first time these critters have made it all the way to the customer. Here’s TimesLive quoting some HelloPeter complaints:
Went to buy a pizza cockroaches were crawling on board above kitchen area and on the fridges really worrying for food franchise pest control should be a priority,” valentia87 said in March…
Another complaint, this time from the Eastern Cape:
We bought a pizza at Debonair pizza in Mthatha near the circle, by the taxi rank. When I got home I bit into a slice and noticed that the block of meat on the pizza had flies eggs on it so I stopped eating and opened the whole slice of pizza up and the last layer( triple decker) I found more flies eggs on the mince meat too.
I suppose all this is good news for KFC, the fast-food chain having been dragged through the mud in light of some customers’ recent less-than-stellar dining experiences (HERE, HERE and HERE).
Where does this leave us pizza lovers then? I think we’ll stick with the guys we can trust, thank you very much.
