Sometimes when you want to enjoy the finer things in life, you have to pay. Anyone who has ever woken up with a throbbing headache after a night on the cheap stuff should be able to attest to that.

Now we know that renting a workspace can often follow similar lines. In addition to the standard R 2 000 per month shared office space membership (with internet, boardrooms etc), rumour has it the team over at Ideas Cartel are building Africa’s most elite office suite. At a hefty $500 a day for traveling businessmen (or R 50 000 per person, per month, for the long term lessee), these guys are aiming pretty high.

We’re not joking either, with four of these office spaces destined to be on the 9th floor of the Ideas Cartel II Shared Work Space Hotel, located at the corner of Wale and Loop Street.

At over R1,000 per square meter, this is officially the most expensive commercial office space to let in Cape Town. Developed by Dave Linder of King’s Cross Properties, we obviously must know exactly what you’re getting for this princely sum? We rung up the chap who is forking out to take over our home page, Schuyler Vorster, and asked him to justify that rental rate.

Here’s where the bang for you buck comes into play…

    Each “Cartelian” office space has:

    • A bespoke desk the size of your bed.
    • A business lounge area.
    • A meeting area.
    • A private bathroom and shower.
    • A driver, concierge, assistant and receptionist.
    • Access to luxury vehicles and bicycles for the weekend
    • 100 MB Fibre…Yes please. now we’re talking.
    • Access to the private Cartelian Club with a rooftop bar, pool and boardroom.
    • Personal Tailor.

Wow, you had me at driver and then you went and dropped a personal tailor into the mix? You saucy minx!

Whether or not it will sell is something that is very much to be confimed, but what it will look like is not. We twisted designer Brigid Randall of ATTIK Design’s arm to send us a few of the work in progress shots. She is tight lipped about the Cartelian project, but did send us the pictures you see here of the already complete 3rd floor.

And the 3rd floor is not to be sneezed at. For R2,500 per person per month – with internet, board room, shared reception, barista service etc. etc. it’s nothing short of incredible.
