The world’s eight richest people better keep one eye on the rear view mirror because young Mark Zuckerberg isn’t slowing down any time soon.

The Facebook creator has now leapfrogged Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad into ninth on Bloomberg’s list of the richest people walking the planet. If you’d like to feel like a real underachiever then it’s worth remembering the Zuck is just 31 years old and now has a fortune of $43.1 billion.

More self-pity? Alright then, his wealth has increased a whopping $8.6 billion this year already. Enough I hear you cry, so let’s hand over to the Telegraph for more on his success:

Facebook’s shares hit a record high of $98.39 on Tuesday as analysts prepare for what they believe will be bumper results next week.

The social network’s second-quarter figures are expected to show a booming video advertising business, as well as strong growth at Instagram, Facebook’s picture sharing website…Facebook now has a market capitalisation of $275bn.

Next in his crosshairs will be Larry Ellison (pictured above) who sits ‘just’ the $300 million ahead, although he will need Facebook to continue to prosper if he wants to challenge Bill Gates at $85.2 billion.
I wonder if Bill Gates ever looks at publications that value him at just the $85 billion and wonders why they shirked him out of $200 million. I don’t imagine so, put in context that’s worth about as much to him as the R5 you gave the car guard this morning.
