A little bit of me really wants this to happen just so I can hear the world’s media say Tokyo’s full name.

The news that Mr Sexwale is considering running for the FIFA presidency has set tongues wagging here at home, many offering their support and others citing his lack of experience. Firstly the statement that has set the rumour mill working overtime, below from TimesLive:

Mr Sexwale has been approached to put his name forward as a candidate for the FIFA presidency by several highly placed personalities within the football fraternity including people from the private sector,” said Peter-Paul Ngwenya of the South African’s Global Watch foundation.

“He is in the process of consulting following which he will then make up his mind,” Ngwenya [said].

Sexwale would be counting on strong support from FIFA’s African members, although Liberian football association president Musa Bilty has also indicated that he will enter the running and could potentially split the continent’s voters.

Michel Platini of France remains the front runner, with competition coming from the likes of Brazilian Zico and South Korean Chung Mong-joon. The vote will take place on February 26 next year, a day that will be met with joyous celebration by football fans who can finally rid themselves of the cancer that is Sepp Blatter.

Also, just try and tell me you aren’t excited by some poor Swiss national introducing Tokyo by name…
