Hair-pulling, shouting, screaming, flailing arms – this fight had all the trademarks of a typical fight between two teenage girls, although not many have escalated to such a degree in recent times.
London’s Walthamstow Central tube station quickly turned into a mass riot with more than 100 officers called in to restore peace. A neighbouring street was later closed to the public after teenage girls were seen prowling the area with baseball bats. The Daily Mail reports:
One video of appears to show a young women ripping hair extensions [see picture below] from another’s head while in another, a young girl is beaten to the ground with a bat.
Another video shows a group savagely beating a girl lying on the floor, and another shows a young woman being arrested.
The Metropolitan Police were shut down Hoe Street, where the station is located, in an effort to get the 200-strong crowd of youths under control.
Never has a street been more aptly named. More on what caused the fight:
Hundreds of users on social media claimed it was sparked by an argument between two young women from rival colleges squabbling over a man.
One Twitter user even suggested the brawl had been pre-arranged and claimed flyers had been handed out outside a local college advertising the fight.
Apologies for the grainy footage but this just about sums up the chaos.
Rumour has it the boy over whom they were fighting also sustained injuries, his hands bruised from receiving so many high fives.
Lame joke but someone had to make it.
