Two young men who died after crashing into a church wall in April this year happened to capture the last moments of their lives on video. An inquest into the death of the two friends, Kyle Careford, 20, and Michael Owen, 21, who sped to their deaths in Crowborough, Sussex, began last week and resulted in their respective families sharing the video. Apparently, the friends had taken a cocktail of prescribed and illegal drugs.
The families intention? To save lives.
We bring our children up teaching them right from wrong. We guide them and give them our advice and hope they listen, but once they are adults we hope they make the right choices. I really don’t know why the boys chose to do what they did, but I blame them both for the decisions they made on this night. If all this stops one person from making the same mistake, then some good has come from showing this video.
The video is filmed by the passenger, Michael, who encourages the driver, Kyle, to go faster and we even get a short glimpse at the speedometer. The two guys can be heard joking, laughing and egging each other on until there is absolute silence. The worst part? The muffled voice at the end who asks if anyone can hear her.
The two boys died instantly.
The inquest also revealed that the driver did not have a license and the car was owned by Michael, the passenger.
Please try and refrain from drinking and driving this festive season. There are far safer ways to travel that will ensure the prolonged lives of everyone around you.
