KFC Balls It Up Again With Tasteless Shark Attack Commercial [Video]

Mick Fanning's near-death encounter with a Great White in July has been parodied by KFC in their latest ad campaign, but his family's not too happy about it.

My mom’s little black book of people who have messed with either of her three spawn is quite thick. From boys who stole chocolates to girls who pulled hair, the list goes far back to as early as pre-school and momsie pretty much got involved with every incident – kinda like Mick Fanning’s mom has. And the latest in Elizabeth Osborne’s book? KFC.

The fast-food restaurant just released an advert parodying the shark attack on Mick Fanning that went down at JBay in July this year. Too soon perhaps?

The Australian surfer’s mother is angered by the advert – which has an actor who portrays Mick and waves the shark over his head – as it has brought up memories of seeing her boy nearly die in the ocean. Check the video for all the deets.

They’ve put a lookalike in the video. It really brings back a lot of trauma for everybody who has been attacked by a shark. Some families have had fatalities and some people are still absolutely scarred without limbs. It’s disrespectful to them and Mick is not at all happy with that.

Apparently the World Surf League (WSL), the sport’s governing body, is considering legal action to have the campaign cut short, but no one could confirm.

But despite criticism from the family, the advert has been well-received by viewers.
