David van Rooyen is a name we are set to hear a great deal about in the upcoming weeks and month. The new Finance Minister was yesterday sworn in at the Union Buildings and addressed the nation on how he intends to right our floundering economy.

Before we go any further can we just clear one thing up – this tweet from David has been doing the rounds these past 24 hours but it appears no one bothered to do any fact-checking. Here’s that tweet:

    dvanhouse

Just a slight problem there guys, it’s a parody account. Other gems include these below:

    dvanhouse2

    dvanhouse3

Now that we have cleared that up let’s address something that did actually happen, van Rooyen’s house being burnt down by residents of Khutsong. Ah, the old ‘mistaken identity burn a man’s house down’ gag, classic.

We shouldn’t write van Rooyen off, it’s only fair we give him a chance, but the fact that he appears to be another Zuma yes man doesn’t inspire much confidence.
