Eight Reasons Why This Is Cape Town’s Favourite Running Race (No It’s Not The Gun Run)

I hate exercise as much as the next person but here's something we all should all get behind. Not a bad view to be had either.

Sunday May 15th people, jot it down because you’re about to take part in a race with a difference.

I know it seems frightening, the idea of exercising on a Sunday, but we’ve got a feeling you’ll be digging this race’s vibe. It’s called the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN, in conjunction with other fantastic sponsors like PUMA, and there’s a number of things that set this one apart from anything you might have done in the past.

Haven’t done a 12km run before? Get ready to run your personal best my friend, but first let’s run through some of this race’s finest features:

  • There’s the route, which begins with you staring at the mountain from Woodbridge Island in Milnerton (the corner of R27 and Loxton Road).
  • Along the route you’ll pass some of the city’s most historic landmarks before finishing up at the FNB Building on Portside (corner of Mechau and Bree Streets). Check that route below:

  • This route is largely flat, none of those uphill sweats that cause us to look like we’re giving birth halfway through the race.
  • There’s no cut off time so you can take it at your own speed and the race begins at 9AM, giving you the chance to have a little lie in before you get cracking.

  • The route is peppered with 24 entertainment and vibe points, and each water point has a unique set up with a little jol going down.
  • If prizes are your thing then how about the chance to win a brand new Opel Adam, the keys handed over at the starting line. The best dressed runner (come now, you knew there was fancy dress) will win two tickets to Istanbul for a wee getaway, plus plenty of spot prizes we’ll keep under wraps for now.

  • WHAT ABOUT THE R30 000 VALUE PRIZE

In terms of you guys, our beloved 2OV readers, we have our own competition running. Check out all those details HERE because we’re giving away two prizes worth R30 000 each.

  • GOOD CAUSE

Then there’s the feel-good factor that comes with supporting a good cause, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and Die Burger Kersfonds two of the beneficiaries of the event’s fundraising efforts.

GET INVOLVED

For the standard individual package, each entry will cost R120 for a licensed runner and R140 for an unlicensed runner. The entries will close on Sunday May 1 so don’t sit on your backside for too long…

All in all there’s a reason the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN took home “Race of the Year” at the Western Province Athletics Annual Awards function last year. This one ain’t to be missed so let’s kick them Sunday blues and do some good before Derick Watts tells us the weekend is over.

You can follow the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN on Twitter (HERE), Facebook (HERE) and Instagram (HERE).
