The North Gauteng High Court is the arena for battle once more, the Democratic Alliance continuing with their bid to have Jacob Zuma’s corruption charges reinstated.
The charges were dropped back in 2009, based off what was perceived as political interference. A quick recap via eNCA:
Transcripts show that former prosecuting head Bulelani Ngcuka and Scorpions boss Leonard McCarthy tried to interfere in the timing of Zuma’s prosecution.
This was seen as an attempt to bolster then President Thabo Mbeki’s chances of winning the party’s Polokwane elective conference.
The DA argue that the political interference during the proceedings was ‘limited and insignificant’, and they’ll be hoping that things play out more favourably than yesterday’s failed vote of no confidence.
