There’s no doubt about it, Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest in the world. So when an Emirates Airline flight crash-landed yesterday, exploding into flames, you can imagine the chaos that erupted.
The plane, flying in from Trivandrum Airport in India, slid into landing when it touched down at the airport, before it burst into a fireball.
Although there was no close-up footage of the incident, one pilot was able to capture the blast from inside the airport:
In an extraordinary effort, all 282 passengers and 18 crew members – the last to disembark – survived, escaping the aircraft safely.
However, although only four passengers suffered minor injuries, one firefighter, Jasim Issa Mohammed Hassan, died in the explosion while trying to save lives.
He was the only casualty.
One passenger on board the flight captured this video while evacuating the plane:
Dramatic pictures and videos of the awful event circulated on social media, and show the horrific moment the plane bursts into flames. While ruling out anything in terms of a security issue at this point in time, no one is quite sure of the cause of the crash.
Dubai Airport was closed for several hours. Here are a few pics of the scene:
