  • You Can Actually Stop WhatsApp Giving Your Details To Facebook – Here’s How

If you happened to stop by and read our Friday Morning Spice earlier, you would have heard about the WhatsApp / Facebook deal that many folks are pretty distressed about.

In case you didn’t we’ll sum it up as follows – WhatsApp will now share your personal info with Facebook, so that the social media site can then target ads more specifically for each user.

You want more of a nutshell? Money.

If that makes you uncomfortable there are a few steps you can take, with these below from MyBroadband:

    Option 1

Before you tap Agree to accept the updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, tap Read.

You will see a control at the bottom of the screen.

If you do not want your account information shared with Facebook, you can uncheck the box or toggle the control.

Of course, like most of these days who can’t be bothered to read the fine print, we usually just tick accept and hope for the best. If you have already agreed to the updated conditions, there is still time:

    Option 2

…you have 30 days to change your choice by going to:

[WhatsApp] Settings > Account > Share my account info in the app.

If you do not want your account information shared with Facebook, you can uncheck the box or toggle the control.

The Facebook family of companies will still receive and use this information for other purposes, such as improving infrastructure and delivery systems.

Whilst some people will see this as another example of how companies monetise every detail of our lives online, others have claimed that having more relevant ads appear should increase our Facebook experience.

Sheesh, remember a time when checking Facebook was just a frantic scramble to untag drunken pictures? Simpler times…
