It’s a little sad that when a white person speaks an African language they are praised for their efforts. Yet black people are still forced to speak English, and are deeply ridiculed when they cannot.
But whatever, let’s leave that for another day and share the love many felt when they saw this video.
Standing at a petrol station in Pinetown, Durban, a white man, dressed in full traditional Zulu clothing, spoke solid Zulu into a microphone.
He was hired by the petrol station to promote a competition they were having, and they got a whole lot more love than entries when the video was uploaded onto Facebook:
Some praised him for his fluent Zulu, others said he could have some land when it’s eventually divided up. The only critique? His decision to wear underwear:
According to SA People, the white Zulu’s name is Tim Boettiger, also known as Ndlovu (which means Elephant).
Oh, and in case Zulu just isn’t your thing, the song he sings apparently asks for the surname of a woman who is not wearing underwear!
Ironic and cheeky.
