Win Wimbledon and you achieve your place in tennis immortality.
Oh, and you also take home £2,2 million (R37 million) in prize money, so it’s no wonder that Roger Federer and Garbine Muguruza were all smiles at Sunday night’s Wimbledon Champions’ Dinner.
They weren’t the only champions, of course, with the various double’s disciplines, as well as the wheelchair champions, also in attendance.
Here’s the Daily Mail:
The women’s singles champion looked elegant in a floor-length white dress as she attended the event alongside coach Conchita Martinez, the first Spaniard to win the title back in 1994.
British star and mixed doubles finalist Heather Watson was also among the first to arrive, impressing in a floor-length blue dress and gold metallic belt.
Men’s singles champion Roger Federer arrived along with his wife Mirka, who donned a floral white dress.
Hours earlier the tennis great thrashed Marin Cilic to claim his eighth Wimbledon title.
They were followed by Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who took the women’s doubles trophy with a win over Monica Niculescu and Chan Hao-ching.
Here’s one-half of the men’s Wimbledon wheelchair doubles title, Alfie Hewett, in attendance:
Side note – the moment Alfie and Gordon Reid won their title:
Andy Murray’s brother Jamie, together with Martina Hingis, claimed the mixed double’s title.
Here’s Jamie with wife Alejandra Gutierrez:
And Martina with her partner:
How about this – Roger may have a had few too many toots at the Ball, something he touches on in this interview from the day after:
The man is human, after all.
Then again, just imagine the state you’d be in after a party in your honour and R37 million in the bank.
