  • Arsene Wenger Will Be Fired Once Africa’s Richest Man Buys Arsenal

Well, those ‘Wenger Out’ folks might finally be getting their wish.

It’s become something of a meme to hold up signs requesting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gets canned – seriously, there’s an entire Twitter account devoted to odd places the signs have popped up.

Never forget that they appeared during the massive Zuma Must Fall protests back in April, too:

    Priorities.

Wenger might be sweating in the wake of recent reports that Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, intends to sack the Frenchman the moment he takes ownership of the club.

    Fin24 with this:

Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has coveted the team since becoming a supporter in the mid-1980s, he said in an interview. He’ll consider making an offer once the construction of an $11bn oil refinery in the commercial capital, Lagos, is completed.

“The first thing I would change is the coach,” Dangote said. “He has done a good job, but someone else should also try his luck.”

Like any good businessperson with swagger, he’s confident he can persuade the current owners to sell up:

[He] doubts he’d have trouble persuading Kroenke and Usmanov to sell.

“If they get the right offer, I’m sure they would walk away,” he said. “Someone will give them an offer that will make them seriously consider walking away. And when we finish the refinery, I think we will be in a position to do that.”

Wenger signed a new two-year deal towards the end of last season, and football clubs usually take a while to be sold, so maybe it will all work itself out and Arsene can leave at the end of his current contract.

As an outsider, and a long time hater of Wenger, I’d like to see him get the sack.

    So would many Arsenal fans.
