We Put Together A Cracking Road Trip Playlist So You Don’t Have To

Road tripping with the right music is essential to creating all those good vibes, but wow, choosing the perfect playlist can be a mission. Here are some suggestions.

Music is an essential part of any road trip, but deciding on what to play can be flippin’ difficult.

One person likes this, another prefers that, and while it would sometimes be better to just listen to the wind, we thought we would help you out on a somewhat neutral basis.

So we chose a few songs – some to get you amped, others to tone down the excitement – just in case you win that R50 000 trip of a lifetime.

What, you don’t know about that? Honestly, where have you been?

While entries closed last week Thursday, South Africans were called upon to vote for their favourite road trip destination in the country. Entries have been put into a draw to win the chance to drive on the “most beautiful route through South Africa.”

Click through here to see which places made it and here if you need a little more information.

Okay, back to the music.

Ready? Let’s get into gear:

Blur – “Song 2”

Childish Gambino – “Sweatpants”

Midnight City – “M83”

Journey – “Don’t Stop Believin'”

Jamie xx – “Gosh”

ACDC – “Thunderstruck”

Grouplove – “Getaway Car”

Rascal Flatts – Life is a Highway

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin’

Mustang Sally” — The Commitments

“Born to Be Wild” — Steppenwolf

Not for you?

Well, apologies, but we only had 10 options and anything heavy – whether it’s metal, trap or Buddhist gongs – just won’t cut it.

And just in case, we threw in a few tracks that should be banned:

  • Britney Spears – “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman”
  • Luis Fonsi – “Despacito” ft. Daddy Yankee
  • Freedom Girls – “The Official Donald Trump Jam”
  • Lou Bega – “Mambo No. 5”
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Sweet Home Alabama”
