  • How Cash-In-Transit Heists Are Planned And Executed [Video]

2018 hasn’t been a good year for cash-in-transit vans, and there’s been a huge spike in heists that have resulted in severe injuries and even death.

There are those like this plucky security team in Krugersdorp who find ways to fend off brazen thieves.

But then, on the other end of the spectrum, you get those cash-in-transit heists that don’t end well for the drivers – and the vans.

Take the Randburg heist that ended up in a shoot-out, for example, or the recent Boksburg heist that saw two vans being bombed in broad daylight.

    Security measures for what?

So how exactly do these ballsy, brazen gangs operate and manage to pull off heists like these?

Graeme Hosken, a senior reporter for Times Select and Sunday Times, has released a helpful video explaining why there are so many cash-in-transit heists, and how the robbers operate when carrying out the heists, reports Times LIVE.

    Check it out:

Flippin’ scary, but definitely crucial info.

    And as Hosken points out:

The [cash-in-transit] heist cannot be carried out without inside information, and this includes information from the police in terms of where patrols are in the area that they’re going to be or wanting to carry out the heist [and] how many police are patrol in the area that are heavily armed.

And if a van is carrying less money, other vans are more than likely to become targeted:

There is now an increase in these heists because the robber realise that in the past, it’d be R80 million inside the van.

Now it’s upwards or less than R5 million, which means they are attacking more and more vans so as to get more and more money.

    Bone-chilling.

With all this info in mind, let’s hope something will actually be done about cash-in-transit heists. Although I won’t raise my expectations too high.
