  • The Royal Dinner Party Rules Meghan Must Follow Before Nipping Off To The Loo

Meghan Markle has had to make plenty of life changes since becoming the Duchess of Sussex.

One of the main things she has had to do is adapt to the giant list of rules and regulations that come with being royal.

Let’s be real –  the dinner parties that Meghan and Harry go to are probably a lot posher than we’re used to.

Then again, I’d take a burger at my mate’s place over the protocols that you need to follow when attending one of the royal get-togethers, any day.

Especially the rule about how to go to the toilet, because that’s actually a thing.

    Here’s The Mirror:

A royal must never ‘announce their intentions’ when they leave the table to go to the loo. Instead they must just say “excuse me” and leave.

That seems easy enough, but you’re forgetting that if you can’t announce your intentions, then there’s probably some complicated signal system used to communicate with the staff.

What if somebody asks where you’re going? Must you make up some elaborate lie? You could probably just say you’re powdering your nose, which means something very different at Windsor Castle and Arcade.

Some more of those dinner rules, then:

If they haven’t finished eating they must cross their knife and fork.

This isn’t to stop those around them helping themselves while they’re away (we’re looking at you Prince Harry…) but it’s a message to their staff that they’re not finished eating.

If they have finished their meal when they get up to nip to the loo, they must put their cutlery at an angle, with the handles at the bottom right of the plate (think 4.20pm on a clock face).

If you’re wondering why they’re looking Harry’s way when it comes to food theft, you’d better ask Prince William.

The whole thing sounds like way too much admin. I think I’d just wait until everyone was done, or give up on going to the bathroom at social events altogether.
